Description

This weapon was imported from the British firm of Vickers in the 1920s and used as an AA MG on a few ships. Some small quantity of these guns were also built in Japan. This weapon was water-cooled and recoil operated. The Japanese "BI" designation for Vickers guns is also translated as "HI" in some accounts.

This weapon had a low muzzle velocity and a short effective range. For that reason, these guns were replaced on most warships starting in 1935 with the 13 mm/76 Type 93 MG.

Actual bore diameter was 0.303" (7.65 mm).
